Day 2 of the Usher's New Look Disruptivator Summit was filled with music, motivation, and UNL alumni. The day opened with a special violinist performance of "Million Dollar Baby" and it was a perfect song to describe all of the summit attendees who are, without a doubt, [future] million dollar babies!
The students heard from motivational speaker Troy Kemp, about the importance of leadership, listening, and learning how to navigate the challenges of everyday life. He also touched on the importance of taking "phone/tech breaks" and making time occasionally to disconnect from the dopamine of the digital world.
UNL alum and 2024 summit host, took to the stage to offer a brain break of sorts to help bring the energy back to the students who had a fun evening the night before at the Disruptivator Ball. It was inspiring to see the hosts, having just recently become UNL alum, be such leaders in the room.
The first panel of the day featured 3 UNL alumni, Ammon Lyle, Kim McMillian, and Tony Betton Jr. who shared how Usher's New Look helped shape their careers as adults. They spoke on the significance of their "sparks" and how no matter what your spark may be during UNL, the program gives youth the opportunity to be introduced to jobs/careers that may not always be at the forefront. This was the case with the next panel which featured members from record label Love Renaissance (LVRN).
A show of hands indicated that many of this year's Disruptivator Summit attendees have an interest in pursuing a career in the music industry. The LVRN panel introduced three people with jobs that are not well-known, but pivotal for the success of artists, live events, and record labels. They shared valuable insight into not only pursuing a career in the music industry, but also how to show up as your most authentic self in a positive way.
With two days completed, this year's Disruptivator Summit class is already receiving a multitude of strategies that will undoubtedly lead to successful futures!
Special thank you to sponsor, Traveler's Insurance who was in attendance for day 2.
